The story kind of just expects you to care about both characters and their unresolved conflict right away but does nothing to help build up that tension.

The plot also moved pretty quickly without a real “set up” for me to develop any feelings for either character. 

And the past / present timeline feels unnecessary. I love a good past / present timeline, and this one just ain’t executed too great.
