Just incredibly dull. It reads more like an itinerary than a story.

The same year (1785) that Sade was in prison writing this book, Charles-Augustin de Coulomb published his paper on the electrostatic force between two charges. This is now known and studied as Coulomb’s Law, in which he even has a constant (a Coulomb) named after him. This paper was monumental and allowed for even more discoveries about electromagnetism (my favorite part of physics) to be made.

Sade is the origin for the word sadism.

I will not be rating this book other than to say that it is very clear this is an unfinished piece of writing and interesting to see the political aspects (and how they can relate today).

Starts of interesting but becomes very boring quite quickly. At some point it's just a list of things that are done to the captives in the mansion

Garbage , tried to finish this multiple times over the years but it’s so boring, contains nothing of worth.

No, I can't say that I liked this book. I'm not sure if it's a story or a compendium of the most vile, horrific acts that can be committed by human beings, for fun and games. I have only read parts of it over the years, that's the most I can handle without fatally poisoning my mind.

What can I say…first of all Sade’s mind was imaginative especially for the time period this book was written but on the same time scary as hell for all the sadistic scene that he wrote. This is what you’d call sadistic porn, there’s so many sickening scenes that you get desensitized. This book isn’t for faint of heart, it’s filled with children that suffers extreme torture and sexual acts. I’m actually surprised this book hasn’t been banned or censored (I don’t believe in either but we all know it happens).

I read it so you don't have to. Seriously don't waste your time .

Okay so here's the thing. I read this because of a few reasons. 1. It is considered be a national treasure of France 2. It is constantly listed as one of the most horrifying books people have ever read

Yes this book is disgusting and made my skin crawl and made me hate humanity. Yes I understand this book is a rough draft and was written while the author was imprisoned at the Bastille. Yes it supposed to shed light on the darkest parts of the human mind.

Considering all of this, the book is still BAD. The writing doesn't make sense in most places and where is does make sense it is equally boring as it is disgusting.

C'mon France you can do better about picking your national treasures. Page after page of people eating shit and a terrible writing doesn't deserve all this attention. Be better.
