Inizialmente avrei dato quattro stelle a questo libro, nonostante più volte mi abbia portato a rimettere anche la cena di Natale del 2003, eppure il mio lato umano ha avuto la meglio e non sono riuscita a distaccarmi da ciò che viene descritto nell'ultimo quarto del libro.
Per quanto sia inumano, crudele e disgustoso, non assegno meno stelle perché vedo in questo libro una struttura e una trama di base che comunque mi ha messo curiosità. Complimenti anche alle descrizioni che rendono perfettamente l' idea di ciò che viene raccontato.
Non consiglierei di leggerlo se siete impressionabili. Decisamente no.
Riconosco inoltre il merito all'autore di esser riuscito a superare qualsiasi confine esistente nella scrittura. Sarei curiosa di leggere una perizia psicologica del soggetto.

Il libro vuole essere una enciclopedia delle perversioni ("passioni"), scritta con una ossessiva meticolosità degna di Dante Alighieri. La scrittura curata ma parossistica stanca velocemente per la ripetitività dei contenuti, riportati più e più volte con minime variazioni. Mi sono però costretto a terminarlo proprio per il suo valore universale, essendosi il marchese fatto carico del compito di racchiudere in un'unica opera l'intero spettro delle perversioni umane.
Direi che questo libro è un male necessario.

This book is... something. I used it as as a context book for an coursework essay but really started reading after Angela Carter's The Sadeian Woman (which is completely fantastic!!) I love Carter and wanted to read some of the original texts she was writing about.
This book is not a light read, it is also not much of a 'fun' read. It's gross, bizarre and at points almost unreadable - which is, I'm sure, at least part of the point.
I will admit, I skipped the last section as it becomes a bit too much for me and also the note form makes reading it even harder.
That said, I think de Sade is a particularly interesting writer and knowing this text makes The Bloody Chamber all the more interesting.

Huge trigger warning for anyone who was sexually abused as a child or an adult.
This is not a book you read to enjoy, unless you’re a very sexually depraved person. However, if one wants to see and understand the mind of a sex trafficker both now and in an earlier time when sexuality and morality were constantly brought into question, this book is good for doing that much.
I respect the author making the reader very aware at the beginning of the book that these characters and persons were the essence of evil, sexual immorality, and depravity. A prime indicator that the author knew very well not only what kind of book he was writing, but the variety of audience he may both appeal to as well as repulse. Either way he makes it very clear he wishes to shock the audience with either pleasure or disgust and that whichever the reader feels speaks to their character.
