I would complain about the incredibly prevalent heteronormality in this book (Fudge says he can’t mary Uncle Feather because he’s a BOY) but as soon as Peter suggests that people can’t mary birds Fudge insists that Big Bird has a husband. The rest of the story is cute and funny. Yes, Shiela is a massively self-absorb know it all but that’s a realistic character. She gets on your nerves because she’s supposed to. Nobody ever complains that Dracula would be a better book if the vampire lord were more sympathetic and less murdery.

Slight wear on back edge

Just realized I read all these books!

Read this aloud with my 5 year old daughter and we both liked it. I think this is my favorite of the Fudge series (so far) and so fun and nostalgic to go back and read these again.

I have always loved these books so much! I'm happy I decided to reread them, they're still as great now as they were when I was a kid! I enjoy these characters, they were such an important part of my life as a reader, and it's still enjoyable to watch them grow.

This was a super quick read and cute as anything. I will absolutely read this story to my boys when they get older. A young boy and his family go to the lake for the summer. Peter ends up in a house on the lake with a girl from his class who he hates - and who he thought was at a cabin on the lake but not in the same house!
A super quick read and a fun book.
