Another popcorn book....fun, fast, and filled with what they term as "naughty fun".

I read the first book in the series, New York Dead, when I was 16 -- a whopping 22 years ago! -- and I still remember it fondly. Having recently noticed that the 44th Stone Barrington book is on the New York Times bestseller list, I thought I'd pick up the second and see what the fuss is all about. While I didn't think the writing was top notch, and I had some pretty serious issues with both the plot and the characterization, the novel was immensely... readable. It was fun, pure and simple.

Stone might as well be James Bond lite -- smooth, good looking, able to bed any woman he comes across. He's smart, rich, suave, and has impeccable taste in everything from clothes to those aforementioned women. While this book (or the series, I imagine) won't win any literary awards, it's a fun ride, and I was more than happy to keep turning pages late into the night to see how the story would end. I will be continuing with the series, because I'm curious to see what kind of trouble Stone will get himself into next.

Notes:

New narrator & he did a great job. I think I have a good handle on how the series will roll and I'm not sure if I'm in the right mood for it. The different characters all seem to have the same kind of mentality of "Do whatever you want. Just don't get caught." that I have a hard time believing. There's a lot of sex scenes and it's rather obvious that someone must have a love of oral sex.

While the first book was more clumsy in throwing in details, it was more entertaining. This one was better written but it was too predictable to be as fun.

The story to the book was good. I was a little disappointed with the graphic sex scenes that really had little place within the plot. They just seemed to be thrown in whenever the author felt like it with no rhyme or reason. The plot was great though.

I really enjoyed this story. Stone is a man's man. Cut from an older cloth than the current detectives or lawyers. He is like an American James Bond.

The story had twists and turns...and made for a really employable read. Will continue with #3, next.
