Much as it pains me to admit it, I wasn't overly enamored with this one. By no means is it bad, it's just never particular engaging. The writing is pleasant enough but somehow detached; events occur at a fairly brisk pace, as though we're hurredly moving towards something but by the book's close we're little wiser. Certainly, when the references to titular Halos (Haloes?), the Flood and all things franchise-related work themselves into the larger mythology it seems a little more compelling but I guess when you set out to write three books you're under no obligation to hurry to any conclusion.

I'm not going to give stars to this book because it wouldn't be fair.

I only read this because my fiancé picked it for our book club book. I know nothing about the Halo universe, so I was very confused about the lore and don't feel comfortable stating an opinion on the book.

Great book And introduction to the Halo lore.

I haven't actually played any of the Halo games but I was looking for quick drivel after two heavy classics back-to-back. This was much better than expected and I may even continue the series.

Attempts to introduce novel elements to the Halo-verse by explaining long lost history, but leaves more questions unanswered that it solves

Finally, the efforts of reading the first two books in the trilogy click into place.

I'd recommended just going to Halopedia if you were (like me) looking for the deepest, oldest lore of the Halo universe

Real rough one, real rough trilogy. Just didn't like worldbuilding, plot, or characters. Unfortunate, thought I would enjoy Forerunner lore.
