This book took me months to read! It is so gruesome and horrific that I could only handle small doses. Fantastic speculative fiction of society turning to organized cannibalism. Struggled a bit with the present tense and blurred transitions of the prose.

This was such an intense read, I’m not sure I can give it a star rating. It’s the best of horror and an examination/condemnation of the way capitalistic human structures pervert humanity. I didn’t once think of it as an allegory while reading. The ending kicked me in the chest. If you read the summary and you’re intrigued, go for it.

I don't quite know what to make of this book. It was gruesome, incredibly graphic and recoiling. I also think it was trying to make a point - but I don't really know what that point was. 'Fuck the meat industry', I guess? But also: you can't trust the government? Maybe it makes more sense in the context of Argentina, but I wouldn't know.

Apart from all that, I found the writing style a bit odd. The main character is only referred to as 'he', except by other characters, which made it very hard to follow. On top of that, there's this very flowery language from time to time that didn't really fit with what was being said.
