A parable on ambition and finding one’s place in the world. Or perhaps about the way that the contemplative path is only reached through humility. “A tale partly about life - partly about revolution and lots about hope.” Some lovely ideas in here, and the simple drawings and colours are charming - but the messages are confused. Parable and allegory are hard to get to grips with, and perhaps this is over ambitious?

I checked this out from Solidarity back in the day. It is one of my favorite kiddie books if I am feeling down.

Passed to me by a mentor I happen to meet and remeet by fate, and someone I respect deeply. Both this book and another lifelong person that I really respect impacted me through this particular metaphor - a caterpillar's metamorphosis - and this book reminded me of her and her words that carried me through low periods of my life :') i'm rlly grateful to have been given this book, though the messages I'm still trying to decipher

Ok I failed to see the beauty here, however, I appreciated the message. I read this first when I was teen and just reread it today. I still did not enjoy it. Maybe someone below ten would appreciate this. It's basically a book about being brave enough to reach your full potential, not letting others dictate your life path and questioning conventions. It's just so singular and could be interpreted in way that is limiting and possibly problematic, the opposite of its intent. This book has charm though, I'll give it that.

Change is good. It's not dying... but transform, transcend.
