very good, i liked that she changed the point of from from Lilith to Akin (although I missed Lilith’s narration and certainly felt her presence lacking as the book progressed). Was disappointed to get to the end thinking I had more to read (thanks Kindle), but will definitely be getting the third book to finish the series!

Akin's journey through the story really elevated the book for me. His struggle with the other Oankali, the sacrifice he was forced to make by remaining with the humans, was heartbreaking. But it was offset by his belief that humanity needs to continue without interference. Continuing while still being HUMAN. It's hard to think things will be different, but his hope is inspiring. I just wish Butler's writing style wasn't so stiff and matter-of-fact. It doesn't allow me to delve into the world as deeply as I'd like. Still, I'm interested to see how the series will conclude.

Yes! Added more fascinating layers to an already complex world from book #1. I'm entranced.

I don’t know where to begin, but I must say I simply couldn’t look away from this story because I loved every moment that I spent reading. This second installment made me feel the same horrific fascination and suspense of the first book, but it flushed out the world and the Oankali specifically. I really enjoyed this perspective of both humans and Oankali from someone who is a construct. I also appreciated the change in perspectives at times as it really made the community aspect of this story come alive. I loved this so much and I am currently devouring the series. It gives me that same giddy reading enjoyment that I had as a kid and I think that all in all the thought experiment of this world is so stimulating and the characters are so gripping I recommend it to everyone. I do think some of the gender elements reflect its time but I won’t have a complete perspective until I read the third installment. Give it a try!
