Really good continuation of the Lilith series. Thought provoking without all the odd alien intimacy of the first book.

I have never been the biggest fan of science fiction or stories about aliens, but Butler's writing compels me to keep reading. I enjoyed "Dawn" and found this second installment in the Xenogenesis series to be equally captivating. Once again, the story is both enjoyable and extremely disturbing.

An interesting exploration of race, gender, heritage, power and what it means to be human. Refreshing to have a narrator from newborn to young adult
Upon finishing the series, the second book has to be my favourite.
This book was what made me see that Octavia E Butler was not just an incredible feminist writer- but a master Sci Fi writer.
Why it took me until the second book to realise? I was so absorbed with the story and where it would take me, that I didn't realise just how flawlessly the character and world building was. I was describing the book to my friend, and suddenly I realised I had an absolute crystal clear image of what Earth looked like, how each and every character looked, what their personalities were, where they stood on the debate of humanity. I knew exactly how the Oankali operated, their motivations, their breeding requirements. Each and every character in this book had depth.
I hate being underestimated as a reader, and I was not disappointed. Complexity of content and narrative was great.
I love a bloody good book - and this was a bloody good book.
