Dara and her family have gone to the Border to be safe, and get away from war. When they have to leave again, Dara is seperated from her family. Jantu gives her a marble and says that there's magic in it. Chnay offers to help find Dara's family. When Dara is reunited with her family, she discovers that Sarun and Nea are engaged. Later, someone kills Jantu. It turns out that there was no magic in the clay marble. Only that Dara really believed that she would find her family. Later, Sarun and Nea end up having children. Dara gets married, and has a daughter. I really like this book. No more no less.

Read this in high school, it touched my heart. A short but compelling read, I still remember the rice scene.

This was one of the books I read as a child that made me aware of a world outside of my own.
