The Third Baseman by Lulu Moore is the first book in the New York Lions series, featuring an engaging second chance romance for Jupiter and Marnie. Jupiter harshly dumped Marnie as soon as he was drafted 14 years ago, crushing her heart. She became a literal rocket scientist working for NASA, who gets talked into working for a professional baseball team for a ton of money. Um, what?

I was looking for a baseball book and omg what a find this was! Jupiter and Marine were the most unlikely couple. The HS nerd and the star baseball player, but under the stars they fell for each other. Until he gets drafted now 14 years later and he is determined to win her back. I loved this book, second chance with past & present chapters, sign me up every time! Will be reading more Lulu Moore books in the future!
3.5 stars
The Third Baseman was my first book by Lulu Moore and I totally enjoyed Jupiter and Marnie’s story.
The story is set in the present with well placed back-flashes so that we get a glimpse of their relationship 14 years ago.
With Marnie we have strong heroine who never fell out of love with her first love. And for selfcare reasons she fights an already lost battle for not giving into her feelings for Juniper. And yet I wish she was stronger. IMO she gave in too easily and let a lot of things slide, that she realized were not ok.
With Jupiter, we have a broody hero, who is moody with everyone else but a golden retriever with Marnie. Marnie was his first love and for sure will be his last. He stops at nothing to win her back. Which kind of puts him (IMO) in the section of a morally gray hero. Because he does things out of purely selfish reasons without considering their impact on Marnie.
Overall, this was a good read and I’m looking forward to read more of The New York Lions!

⚾️ The Third Baseman ⚾️ (Book 1 of the New York Lions series) by Lulu Moore
ℝ𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘: 4⭐️; 1.5 🌶️
This book has very long chapters - from 15-20 minute averages. Not that that is very long for a lot of people - but just a heads up!
𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰:
⚾️ It took me awhile to truly figure out what was happening with this book - and I think that’s because the way the author writes this you’re going back into time pretty quickly with no idea who these characters are or what they mean to each other because you haven’t made a connection with them. However, once you start truly getting deeper into the story you start to put all of the pieces together and it all starts to make better sense.
⚾️ Marnie was amazing. Seriously she was stupid intelligent and crazy about Jupiter. It was so nice to see a woman in books that was a dang scientist - a freaking genius! Plus I loved astronomy as a kid so being able to have that in a female character really made me happy! Plus - this woman didn’t let Jupiter just do what he did without him having to grovel - AND GROVEL he did! I honestly wanted him on his knees groveling but the way he does so in the book was fine enough for me 😂
⚾️ Jupiter is hot. Let’s just be honest the man is 🥵. Not only is he a bad 🍑 baseball player - but he’s kind, and sweet and as he gets older he becomes a grumpy grouch - and yall know how I love a grumpy grouch! I loved how he lets go and lets Marnie chase her dreams even if that means losing her. Because he knows what her dreams mean to her just like she knows what his dreams mean to him. That’s not to say he doesn’t go about it the wrong way - but sometimes you do what you gotta do!

This whole thing, this trope, this vibe just sung to a deep dark part of my soul and I just want more! Its 4.5 stars and I would have given it 5* if he suffered just ever so slightly more but the whole gd thing was delicious. This is the first thing I’ve read by this author but I’ll def be picking up others!
Also, dual timeline AND dual POV for those of you that may (or may not) like that.
