Second chance can either be amazing or meh and this one leant more meh to me. It is heavily advertised online which is usually a red flag but some of the authors other books have been great. The writing was good but it just didn’t grab me. It was like all the ingredients were there but it just didn’t come together properly.

Song: Flower Need Rain by Preston Pablo

What a sweet baseball romance! The Third Baseman made me swoon and question all my high school life choices I made. WHERE WERE ALL THESE BOYS!? I should've been more like Marnie and focused on my studies until a Jupiter came along. I'm really hoping men like him really do exist in the world!

"She was so beautiful. More than beautiful. She was my star-filled night beautiful."

Marnie's character was adorable. She knew what she wanted to do with her life since she was a kid and solely focused on that journey. She's the quiet girl next door and the smartest person in school. She grounds him in a way he's never felt before and I love that. She's the mysterious, independent girl who captured the elusive Jupiter.

"My boy next door with the smile I loved."

And then we have Jupiter, our own personal Roman God and almighty planet. He's the sexy baseball player who is trying to live all his childhood ambitions. He's the bearded, tattooed, cocky man of our dreams. One thing I LOVED about Jupiter is his focus and drive to get whatever he wants. And he wants Marnie.

"The Stars Don't Look Bigger, But They Sure Look Brighter."

Lulu Moore was a genius when she put this book together with all the extra things like his baseball number. *Chef's Kiss* My most favorite thing ever is finding little connections in books and obsessing about them for weeks. She gave us plenty of quotes to highlight with enough nostalgia that'll make us think of Marnie and Jupiter for months to come. Like I need some stickers. Everything fit together so perfectly. Marnie's love for all things space and Jupiter's name had me weak in the knees. No matter what, they couldn't escape each other as long as there are stars in the sky. I also saw Lulu Moore has an entire hockey world that I'm about to get lost into. One thing I appreciate so much in sports books is when they mention REAL sports teams. It makes the illusion so much more realistic. Thank you!

*3.5 Stars! Thank you so much to Valentine PR and Lulu Moore for sending me a copy!

I am a sucker for a sports romance, and a second chance romance, and baseball. Jupiter and Marnie's story was definitely a sweet one! The way the story opens, the flashbacks to their past, and the way he knew her love language and used it to win her back!

I wasn't super sure of Jupiter at the beginning, the way he seemed unconcerned with her emotions as he barreled his way into her life, but he won me over the way he did her. For the majority of the book, we don't know why he broke up with her in High School, luckily it wasn't a cheating thing which is an instant red flag for me, but when we learn why, everything truly comes together in a way I really enjoyed!

I also love the sports science mentions in the story, the concept of the 1% scale was super interesting and something I might have to start trying in my own life! Anyway, Im happy I picked this up.

The Third Baseman is a second chance baseball story that also has quite a bit of space jargon in it, a combo that weirdly worked. It's a classic opposites attract, jock + nerd, and has the next door neighbor vibe. This writing is not great and felt a little all over the place. It's a little clunky and I feel like there some inconsistencies with Marnie's character. This book had a lot of potential for me (sports and dual timeline and dual POV? sign me up), but it fell short and wasn't the book for me. I had a lot of issues with the writing and the logistics of the plot, and found myself not being very invested in the characters.

If you love something, let it go, if it comes back it was meant to be. Well in Jupiter’s case he kinda force Marine back to him. This second chance, high school sweetheart story was so perfect. I really enjoyed seeing how much they had grown. My only issue that I had with the book is they are from California and they move to NYC and there we British terms used that would not be used in these locations.

I just lost interest in this story.

I loved this book, it felt so good to be back in the baseball world, and I loved Marnie and Jupiter, their story beginning in high school as we work our way to the beginning break up scene running parallel to the present was so well written that I loved both time lines.

Jupiter really loved Marnie and you could see it in every action even if he was overbearing a little bit, but it was his personality. Their chemistry was amazing, and Marnie is overall just an amazing character. Her career, her personality, her brilliance and everything.

I can’t wait to see what comes next!
