Unlike its sequel ([b:Explorers on the Moon|165556|Explorers on the Moon (Tintin, #17)|Hergé|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1434919579l/165556._SX50_.jpg|159847]), this one is mainly set on good old Planet Earth itself, with Tintin (and Snowy!), Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus and the bungling Thompson twins all in the Sprodj Atomic Research Centre in Syldavia, working on the rocket that will take them to the moon!
This, I believe, is also one of only a handful of 2-part stories (the others being the earlier [b:The Secret of the Unicorn|179174|The Secret of the Unicorn (Tintin, #11)|Hergé|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1344263637l/179174._SX50_.jpg|1275077] followed by [b:Red Rackham's Treasure|146109|Red Rackham's Treasure (Tintin, #12)|Hergé|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1352642695l/146109._SX50_.jpg|729618] and [b:The Seven Crystal Balls|146104|The Seven Crystal Balls (Tintin, #13)|Hergé|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1499677359l/146104._SX50_.jpg|185719]followed by [b:Prisoners of the Sun|96428|Prisoners of the Sun (Tintin, #14)|Hergé|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1500729011l/96428._SX50_.jpg|185697]).
