THIS. WAS. SO. CUTE. I loved all different monsters, cryptids, and aliens what were featured in the book. I honestly, could read this over and over I loved it that much.

Did I spend an hour cackling at this book, sending pictures of pages to my husband every three minutes? You betcha. Cryptid Club is cartoonist Sarah Andersen’s delightful take on cryptids—Mothman, the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, and other friends—and what their daily lives look like. Mothman crashes into lit-up windows. Big Foot is bummed that every photo of him is unattractive. Etc.

THANK YOU to Webtoon & Netgalley for sending me this ARC. All reviews are honest reflections of my own opinions, always.

Mysterious denizens of haunted woods, lochs & mansions, or simply misunderstood monsters with a relatable touch of social awkwardness & camera anxiety???

Welcome to the Cryptid Club, where Anderson draws out in her signature style some pretty funny & often understandable situations our common cryptids find themselves in. From the woes of being so unphotogenic (I mean, all those blurry Big Foot pics, am I right?), to the struggles of simply fitting in with the crowd, Anderson pulls out a few laugh out loud parallels between cryptozoology & humankind. Perhaps we aren't so different after all...

While I am usually a huge fan of Sarah Anderson's comics, in which we introverted animal loving book nerds find both relatability & the value of being seen, this one didn't quite hit that level of fun for me. The comics are unmistakably Anderson style, quirky & giggle worthy, but none that I found myself truly in stiches over or wanting to pass on to others in a 'hey, check this out, so relatable' kind of way that her other books seem to do. 3.5 stars & a thankful heart that got to read what one of my favorite cartoonists has been up to lately.

Classic Sarah Andersen- so I absolutely loved this!!!

This short and sweet graphic novel was just what I needed to refresh how much I love spooky books with humor from Sarah Andersen. Much like 'Fangs,' this one features a bunch of mythical creatures that humanize them into jokes. It is pretty short but such a fun read.

I adore all of Sarah Andersen’s books and Cryptid Club is no exception! Vignettes with some of our favorite (real and fictional) cryptids like Slenderman, Fresno Nightcrawlers, Nessie, Mothman, and more will make you smile and laugh. A cute little book, I really enjoyed it!

I picked up Cryptid Club not connecting the fact that the Sarah Andersen that penned this creation is also responsible for Sarah’s Scribbles. So, when I opened up this ARC expecting a spooky themed graphic novel, and instead got short, adorable, one page anecdotes featuring a cast of monsters, I was a little shocked but overall very amused.
In the grand scheme of everything, Cryptid Club is really simple and very silly, but it made me laugh. I would constitute this a great novel to add to your morning affirmations. Instead of a daily calendar of inspirational quotes, you could be picking this up every morning and laughing about the absurdity of Aliens leaving you on “read” or a socially anxious Bigfoot.
I found Cryptid Club really cute, and it’s probably a book I’ll add to my arsenal of “gift ideas for people you don’t know that well,” because it’s pretty universally funny. In terms of recommending it, I would, especially if you’re a fan of these types of simple joke-and-punchline comics like Strange Planet, Sarah’s Scribbles, or Cyanide and Happiness.
