Enjoyed reading this my son. It is very Roald Dahl-esque and was enjoyable, however, it could have been significantly shorter and it felt that he was trying too hard by the end. The constant asterisks throughout the story were also off-putting for me as a reader and for my son as a listener.

I did like the onomatopoeia throughout and it allowed my son to get involved with the reading as well. Overall it is a fun read for parents and kids.

I actively disliked this book. I love literature for children and enjoy exploring books that are new to me with my grandchildren. Before expressing my thoughts I must say that my five year old grandson loved all the sound effects. For myself, I strongly objected to the lack of a likeable child character and any resolution for the only child in the story. It's very odd to have a story for children written from the parents' perspective where the resolution involves the parents living happily ever after without their child.

Oh my days David!!! Whilst this book was amusing and trying to read it from the perspective of the age it is aimed at; some of the animals in the monsterpedia and the jungliest jungle were humorous like the legless hippo that moved by farting that was amusing but considering I have read virtually everything you have wrote and this one for was a flop.
This book focuses on 9yr old Myrtle Meek and she is the worlds most spoilt brat who wants everything, literally. Her librarian parents meet her every need and once she has everything she decides she wants a “Fing”. This is a fluffy one eyed ball shaped monster that has two holes one of which is its mouth and the other its bum but it can eat and do strange this either!!! The illustrations by Tony Ross were great but I just really didn’t have a great vibe with this book. Normally children’s books I can immerse myself in them but this one I just couldn’t and I would have hated doing a reading group with a bunch of little ones as I wouldn’t be able to be my crazy self. Just couldn’t give it higher than 2. David your other books are far better please stick to those type of books as they are a better read

Read- August 2019 for The N.E.W.Ts (My O in Potions) and The Magical All Nighter
- I have almost completed my goal of reading all of David Walliams' published works. I adore Walliams not just as an author but as a person and you can really see his sense of humour and personality shine through in his novels.

Well, this was funny! It had a different vibe from the other David Walliams' books and I guess it was a little shorter but I loved it! The jokes and the absurd stuff were the same in this one. What is so different from the others is that in the other books kids are the good guys, the main characters. Here the girl's parents and Fing are the main. I mean Mr. and Mrs. Quills' daughter is a complete monster and they're so kinda and sweet librarians. I don't even know where these crazy and absurd+hilarious ideas come to this man! I recommend it to tweens, David Walliams books fans, and just peeps who want to read funny graphic novels! (I'm not sure if it counts as a graphic novel or just a novel with pictures but there are a lot of pictures and the words are big often...) Anyways, bye!!!

This is the first [a:David Walliams|313653|David Walliams|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1326278331p2/313653.jpg] book I liked. It is very funny especially the post-script(*). The writing style was like [a:Roald Dahl|4273|Roald Dahl|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1311554908p2/4273.jpg] and the illustrations like [a:Quentin Blake|146|Quentin Blake|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1357194118p2/146.jpg]. Wonderfull book.
