I enjoyed Sontag’s writing, but I have to admit that the last few essays lost me a bit. I’m all for talking about how feminism relates to different topics (like fascism, communism, etc), but those essays were, to me, altogether a bit dense.
most 2/3 star reviews say the essays of the latter half felt disjointed and this doesn't work as a collection, but once i read her introductory essays on women, misogyny and film, in the first half, the art critiques in the latter half provided the perfect praxis.
reading sontag will always be a special experience because her texts don't feel dense, but each sentence contains dozens of topics for rumination, personal exploration and synthesis and i always end up journaling so much about her words :)

Interesting collections of essays. Though the initial essays were very directly on the topic of feminism, the essays seemed to vary more in primary subject—albeit with a continued connection to feminist themes—towards the end. Personally, I found this to be difficult to get through since I typically find nonfiction to be less engrossing. The essays varied quite largely in length. I likely would’ve enjoyed the reading experience more if I hadn’t read each essay in the printed order, but rather simply one at a time at my leisure. Sontag is clearly an influential intellectual, but my method of reading prevented me from fully appreciating the depth of her genius.
Recommend! If not for Sontag's ideas themselves, but for the way they are expressed. Articulation is power bby

while i do not agree with all of her points (a healthy dose of skepticism she might appreciate; or not, i don’t know), sontag cannot be denied her brilliance with the pen. it often reads as though she is citing her perceived reality, but it’s an interesting one, at that.
