I tend to review Salvatore's books highly, but I just love his character development and this book doesn't disappoint.

Classic Salvatore, but better. With an almost all-baddies cast and a hugely important mission, this book could easily be one of the best Salvatore books, albeit not a stand-alone. No preaching, a lot of nice twists and plenty of lip from Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle.

One of his best books! Don't skip this or the rest of the sellswords!

was expecting some pulp fantasy and this is better than i thought it would be. i think my only complaint is the rapid shift in pacing near the end. Really felt like I was reading a sparksnotes summary in the last act of the book
adventurous dark medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Quick summary without spoilers....
Artemis Entreri is teamed up with Jarlaxle as the drow have made their way to Calimport AND Jarlaxle has Crenshinibon and how much will it corrupt the leader of Bregan D'aerthe?

If none of that makes sense to you then you should be ashamed because you're obviously behind on the finest tales in all the Realms.

And did I mention that this story also has Cadderly, Danica and Ivan/Pikel Bouldershoulder!

No Drizzt.

But everyone else is here.
It's really good.

Classic Salvatore. Great characters. Great fights. Epic magic. Dragons and elves and drow.

Seriously, this is a good read. I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point to reading the Forgotten Realms but if you're familiar with all the mainstays in Salvatore's Realms books then this is not one to be missed.

I enjoyed the play between Jarlaxle and Entreri much more than I expected to. This was a fantastic read.

Again without Drizzt, again a decent tale. It didn’t have the human-interest aspect like SotW did, but it wasn’t bad. Artemis remains stubbornly unwilling to change his ways, and I came to like Jarlaxle’s observations of Entreri in this novel – perhaps knowing this is what becomes of the two of them will make LotD better the next time I read it. I liked how it wrapped things up with Crenshinibon (again Salvatore revisits a previous location like Haphaestus’ cave without revisiting plot, so the whole story seems unbroken and natural), and how it concludes the whole thing with Entreri and Jarlaxle without a cliffhanger, so that a reader who is interested in Drizzt can continue without feeling like he’s missing something if he doesn’t read The Sellswords, which I have no interest in looking at. It was a good conclusion to this part of the story of Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle, satisfying and complete.

I'm giving this five stars just for the reveal at the end of the book.

I laughed out loud, at times. I wasn't able to put it down! Very exciting and an excellent read.
