7/10
An enjoyable read featuring some of the characters who have been the “bad guys” in the earlier Drizzt books (and Drizzt does not play a role in this installment at all). Focusing on the assassin Artemis Entreri and the dark elves Jarlaxle, Rai-guy, and Kimmuriel, the story explores the power of the Crystal Shard, Crenshinibon, and reveals how these players (and others) react and respond to its allure. Surprising changes result, especially in the lives of Entreri and Jarlaxle.

3.5/5 stars.
Reading about Jarlaxle and Artemis Entreri is so much fun. This is again one of the better books after the relative let-downs of The Spine of the World and Sea of Swords. It's a fantastic, fast-paced read, and R. A. Salvatore is at his best here. I like the scheming and intrigue that Salvatore displays in this novel.

This book although being in the Legend of Drizzt series is the first book in which he actually doesn't play a role outside of a few musings in the beginning of each part as with all the other books. Instead it focuses on Jarlaxle and Artemis Entreri and the exploits in and around the Chrystal shard. The books pacing and combat scenes will still fill very familiar to fans of the series.

Another one down in the series. A fun side adventure. Interesting to see secondary characters take the reins for a book

A fun political story with some background characters we haven't been able to focus in on previously.
