So much happened and yet the plot was completely nonsensical without any real resolution. It was also a complete slog to finish.

This is one of those books that I feel gets better with every re-read. On first glance there are many confusing and disjointed aspects to it, but like a puzzle, the finished project helps to make the individual pieces easier to understand. I loved the magic and surrealism that permeated throughout the book, and I delighted in getting to know Zachary, Damien, and Mirabel as the story went along. It was a great reflection of how disjointed life can look on the surface and supports the idea that every action is interconnected and affects more than just the individual person making them.

It took me a while to get through because of the confusing parts, but overall, I ended up loving so many different pieces, and really appreciate the deeper symbolism it holds. I can’t wait to see what it’s like upon rereading it down the road!

“Books are always better when read than when explained” lovely, nuanced, fantasy, world in world love story. Way to begin the new year. I listened to this book on audio, may need to actually read it to absorb all the twisted turned and kept secret.

This took my far too long to finish, mostly because I didn't like it all that much, which was disappointing! I absolutely loved Morgenstern's first book, The Night Circus, so I was very surprised to find that this book didn't do it for me. Can't really put my finger on why but it just wasn't it.

this took me forever but it's actually amazing

Beautifully written and immersive. Wonderful use of multiple stories/legends and perspectives. However, the plot and characters fall flat. Also, the author begins with a magical realism/we-are-never-really-going-to-get-all-our-questions-answered-but-it’s-going-to-be-poetic-and-beautiful-and-somehow-still-satisfying style but ends in just fantasy, and not well executed fantasy.

I do not know what Erin Morgenstern was on when she wrote this book. but I'll have what she's having
dark emotional slow-paced

Vibes like Piranesi and Seanan McGuire’s In An Absent Dream. Too complex for an audiobook for me.
