This book was a trip, and one that I’m glad I went on
A fantastic look at life, religion, philosophy and love while reading an engaging story that takes you everywhere you could imagine. The characters aren't perfect, which makes them all the better. And the fact that it is based off of the author's real escape from prison and life in Bombay's slums and mafia makes the book a great read.

A patron at the library I work at told me this was the best book he had ever read. I gave it 200 pages and there were times I was completely engulfed in the author’s world and I wanted to stay there. But I couldn’t because I needed to move on and the story was stuck with the same descriptions of the streets and the bar and the people and everything. I wanted to say “we already know this; you told us five pages ago.” He is an excellent writer but he is a repetitive writer and that kept me from reading further.
A book that stays with you. Some parts were worth 5 stars, others much less but overall an enjoyable read

A bit pretentious at times, but otherwise a fantastic read!
Hated it! Would have DNF’d except that it was recommended by a friend so I felt compelled to try to finish it. Everyone the main character meets adores him or falls in love with him. Everything he does is praised highly. Every problem that arises, thank god the main character was there to solve it! Every woman is beautiful (except the evil one). Every realization that anyone comes to is clearly stated outright. Unpleasant depictions of violence abound. Unlikable or unreliable narrators are fine, but I need the author and/or the other characters to be aware that the narrator is unlikable.
