This series continues to be compelling!
I have some gripes though:
1. Paige gets told "Whatever you do, don't leave the safe house until you hear from me." Paige immediately leaves the safe house—definitely doesn't tell anyone she's leaving or where she's going—and all hell breaks loose. This would be fine if it happened once, but it's used multiple times and tbh it gets old.
2. Paige immediately thinks Arcturus has betrayed her even though their trust is very well solidified by the time he's captured by Nashira's squad. She even knows he's been captured by Nashira's squad. When she finds him and his personality is 0% like anything he's ever conveyed before, she's all "WOE IS ME, MY BOYFRIEND LIED TO ME!!1!" Like, ma'am. Get a grip. You even noted a hint of where the fake cold facade slipped during this meeting. You were raised from childhood into young adulthood by a crime syndicate of strategic thinkers, have witnessed magical tricksies over and over, and know that you don't know how all the magic in the world works. You also have a million clues that he didn't betray you on purpose. Please find some logic and assume first that the enemy has done something to create this situation. I just hate when characters are temporarily stricken with No Thoughts to further a plot a certain way. I get having an emotion, but she became instantaneously insufferable about it before even trying to put the pieces together.
The rest of it was enjoyable, though. I liked the many other ways that Paige shows personal growth and grapples with internal conflict.

So many twists! Definitely a favorite in the series for me. My only qualm is how much untranslated French there is - since I half read/half listened I wasn’t able to do my own translating and relied just on context and informed guessing.
Every book in this series has been a 5 star for me i am just so in love with everything! Like the plot has made enough sense to not make me mad but not too obvious where I already know where everything happens but GOD do I need a novella where these characters can just relax and feel loved for once.

okay i love getting to explore more of the world again. paris was a very cool setting. i did miss a lot of the core cast for most of the book though. while the new characters and plots introduced with them were cool, i just felt a bit of longing. i do think this book dragged out a tiny bit but it wasn’t unenjoyable! the ending was INSANE but i also kind of wish that us and paige having thought that warden actually HAD betrayed her carried over into the next book. i don’t always love when stories do something so SHOCKING and then a few chapters later it’s just like oop nevermind! this was the weakest in the series so far for me but it’s still 4 stars and I am SO excited for the next book.
