Weird pacing. Weirder ending. Was it trying to do something and it just didn't land? I really can't tell.

I did like that the story branches out to the rest of the world - not all of which is under the dystopian government rule.

The fourth book in the Bone Season series and definitely my favourite so far!

The world opened up even more as we’re introduced to another city debilitated by Scion and new interesting characters. A satisfying blend of action and character development with a twist at the end that I definitely wasn’t ready for!

This book has really heightened this series for me and I’ve already started reading the next instalment.

Not bad, I still find Paige to be somewhat unlikeable most of the time but the story and world is very interesting!

What an absolute rollercoaster ride of a book. The opening chapters perfectly set the tone for the rest of the book, which was a lot darker and grittier than the previous ones.
I really appreciated that Samantha Shannon took the time to address and explore Paige’s trauma following the events of the previous book. As heartbreaking as it was to relive that with her, it did feel necessary. It would have undermined the narrative and cheapened Paige’s character if she had bounced back from all of that (which we know by now she has a habit of doing…).
I did find myself rolling my eyes every time she found herself kidnapped or surviving the impossible. But at this point I’ve just accepted that all of this is in-keeping with her nature as a maverick. She’s a feeler, not a thinker, this one. The plotting is so intricate and I’m starting to realise just how much groundwork was laid in the previous books. Fantastic world-building as always, and an intriguing cast of characters, both major and minor.
