This book started out great but about 1/2 way thru it started going down hill. While there’s nothing terribly innovative about this book, it was interesting to see different types of shifters. The dynamics between the male mc’s was quite good. I adore Savage who is incredibly endearing. Savage is a perfect “good bad guy”.
My problem with this book is the fmc gives off doormat. The fmc never gets a win, and the mmcs steam roll at every opportunity. All these loses on her part comes off pathetic which is not pleasant to read. For example the fmcs only way to retaliate is to dress up and do her makeup. I prefer a fmc that has a more active role in the plot.
About half way thru it appeared as though the author started running out of plot and things to say. As a result there was a lot of internalized plot discussion (again boring) and significant attention to visual details. This started reading an awful lot like a teens diary. Today I wore… I decided to go with a smokey eye… class today was sooooo boring etc. This was also incredibly boring to read. Book one could have been a fair bit shorter without all that filler. Frankly the whole premise of the book is incredibly weak and easily solvable with a really quick conversation between her and her mates.
“Oh so you’re incredibly powerful and I know this because you’re well know in our community and I talk about your strength all the time” “Yes Lia what’s up. As your mates our driving goal is now to support and protect you. What can we do for you?” “Ok so xzy wants to do xyz to me, think you can help me with that?” “It would be our pleasure, now let’s go bang”. The end.
The spicy scene was below average. Short, clumsy, and hand no build up.
I’ll keep reading this series in hopes that the writing and/or editing improves. I do like most of the characters.
If the fmc had a back bone, was a bit older (only 20) and the spice level was hotter this would have been a 4 star.

Oh damn, this is a SLOW burn book.
Well, we know they're all fated mates from the start but the candle that symbolizes the romance in this book is BURNING SO FUCKING SLOWLY.
Who?! Is?! Her?! Last?! Mate?! I can't believe we haven't met him in the first book at all yet.
All these misunderstanding. I can't believe the guys made a deal with Lia's dad in the first place, although imagining being in their shoes with Lia rejecting them and thinking she tried to burn them alive, I guess I can kinda see and understand their rage. But, still, what the fuck?
I NEED THEM TO GET ON TO CONFRONTING EACH OTHER. Like, yesterday. Come on!

this 🤏 close to a full 5 stars - in the top 5 faves for 2025 for sure.
I love me some Lyle and I really want to know who the shadow And final mate is I'm going crazy
this book was insanely ridiculously fantastic, I loved it all the dynamics and the plot was so funny, Lia is one seriously hilarious girl in dire situations it can't be helped - i was chortling and kicking my feet in the air throughout. not much to be done or said about it but to read the next books. I'm also dreading devouring these because this series isn't finished I don't think and I won't be able to cope at the end

Ooh this series hits all the right spots.
☑️ Monstrous Academy
☑️ Fated feral mates
☑️ Dark themes that are not for those who read trigger warnings
☑️ Rough sex scenes
☑️ Adorable fluffy companion animals
☑️ A support rooster named Eugene
☑️ Friend groups instead of mean girls
Can't wait to dive into book 2
There are some editing errors including a confusing mix up of character names that should have been caught by editors. However I am fully aware that sometimes these things get through self pub and indie books and I'm ok with that. I also understand that is not a sign of bad writing. When writing a novel there is a lot of cut and paste and changes to make characters work and sometimes insertions go wrong. I'm smart enough to understand what the author was trying to do and honestly it has nothing to do with the story.
