This was a good book! It really was! The story line was great and kept my attention. I enjoyed the characters and all of the toxic energy, sexual tension, and just overall conflict between them all. The ending was also good, obviously since this is book 1, it ended on a cliffhanger and what a cliffhanger it was! With that said, it took me awhile to read this book. It was painfully slow at times. I feel like a good quarter to half of the book could've easily been removed and it all would've flowed better and the story wouldn't have really missed anything.

I wasn’t sure what to expect considering it’s going to be five books long, but I was pleasantly surprised. I do wish I had known that there was a prequel before I started reading it. It would have helped to tie a few things together; however, I did get the general gist and will be reading the prequel momentarily. You don’t find out about the prequel until the end of the book. That’s probably it’s only negative for me.

Throughout the book we meet Aurelia, daughter of the Serpent Order King and an eagle shifter mother. Upon her 13th birthday, she shifts for the first time and then finds out she has five mates, and not from her serpent order. Her mating is unique, and her father is furious about it, especially when she doesn’t shift into a serpent as he expected. After visiting a seer, she discovers that she is linked to five different orders – including The Slaughter Brothers – a wolf, Savage, and a shark, Scythe. They, along with their chosen brother, Xander, a dragon shifter, pursue Aurelia intent on killing her.

We follow their story as they navigate their arrests and punishment in a rehabilitation college. I love Aurelia’s roommate, Minne, too. She’s adorable. I also picked who Aurelia's fourth mate was, and this is confirmed late in the book.

This ends on a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait for book two.

4/5 ⭐

By the time I was 40% into this book, I knew I was going to go into withdrawn after I finished it. There's so much left untold between Aurelia and the three men she knows are her mates. They think she's a spoiled brat who for some unknown reason rejected them. She learns about something they did, something that's unforgivable to her. They have no reason to trust each other, but as you're reading, you kind of wish somehow they'd just talk and realize what's actually going on. Aurelia has too much to lose, however, so it makes sense that she can't tell anyone her secrets.

Often, I felt bad for Aurelia. She's stuck between a rock and a hard place, and then she learns she's even more stuck than she thought. Thank goodness she makes friends in the book, but for a while, despite that, she feels alone due to her secrets,  and she kind of is. Even so, more people end up helping her even without knowing what's going on, exactly, and you can't help but cheer her on for any chance to stand up for herself or to rebel that she can take. She definitely doesn't take stuff laying down, and I love the fire she has and her snark!

By the end of the book, it becomes a bit darker. I admit, a tear or two was shed in the last chunk of it. A few people know at least a part of who she really is, and when her father comes to take her away, it's officially revealed to readers (and those present at the time in the book) when she executes her plan of escape. We're left on a bit of a cliffhanger for the next book.

I can't wait until the next one is out!

(I received a free ARC of this book, and am voluntarily leaving my own review of it!)

Aurelia has spent a good part of her life running. Now after an accident involving her arranged husband and his death, she has been accused of crimes that she did not commit. Running once again, her mates, who she refused, have been tasked with finding her and bringing her back to her father for punishment. After being captured, Aurelia is forced to attend Animus Academy while she awaits her murder trial and to be reformed into a functioning member of the animus society.

Bali has once again created a world where tensions are high, friendships are strong and fluffy little companions are a big deal. The characters are so well shaped and backstories are included to help us, the reader bond with the group. Our FMC has a building strength, showing that she is coming into her own - leaving us knowing that she is set for an impressive arc. Each of the three mates are shown to be brutish, yet still caring. I look forward to showing how they all grow together as a group. My standout characters were Lyle & Minnie. They were a fantastic addition, and I really can't wait to see where they are both taken throughout the series.

Perfect for fans of Zodiac Academy, The Bonds That Tie & Beasts of the Briar. There is a prequel Her Vicious Beasts and it's highly recommended that you dive into that first - although it isn't a necessity if you don't. Her Feral Beasts is set for release September 30th, 2023.

It appears as though I have a love/hate relationship with our dear author here.

How dare you write such a master piece but then have me on edge waiting for the second installment!

I’m so grateful to have been given an ARC and experience this book. I had intended to read it throughout the week on my holiday and low and behold we’re done in a day!

The characters in this all have their own battles and demons but it’s beautiful getting to see them play off each other.

I absolutely love the way you reveal the fourth love interest at the end. I suspected it because of the undies incident but oh wow. These mates are all going to have to work hard to bring their relationship together but I can’t wait to see how it progresses through the next books. I am also reading your Archer series too and I love the tie in of the Boneweaver! It’s amazing getting to see little tie ins like this :) </spolier>

I screamed when I read the last page thinking there would be more and seeing that it was done. I was completely absorbed into the world so when I saw that I was done I was sad for a minute. I wanted more!
This book was sooo good! I was quickly hooked to the story and the characters. It reads so smoothly, there was always something going on, no boring moments.
We get the perfect mix of action, fun times, hard times, little spice and characters back story's .
I am so excited to see how this story will continue and I'm happy that there are a lot more books coming for this series 🤩
Also, how beautiful is this cover!!

I also want to thank the author for letting me ARC read her book ❤️
