I love this book but there are two reasons why it only gets a 4 star rating, rather than a 5 star:
1. Killer is just so damn annoying. I understand that he is supposed to be comedic and sometimes he is, but he is just nonstop annoying and stupid, and he is there the entire book.
2. The lack of Mendanbar, and tied to this, the ending with Mendanbar being stuck in a closet until Daystar is old enough to rescue him......I'm one unhappy camper. I honestly can't remember what happens in the next book, but I'm pretty sure book 4 doesn't start off where book 3 ends.

Clever and cute but definitely a setup for the final one
I enjoyed the blue donkey rabbit but a bit weaker than the first two. Read w the kids.
So far this has been the least fun book in this series, for three reasons. First, spending half of every page on the "nobody can understand what Telemain says haha" gag is way too much. This gets old really fast. Second, Killer is incredibly annoying. Third, there is no resolution! The whole book is spent on a drawn-out trek and then, right at the end, an interesting problem is posed and the book is over. We have to wait until book four to find out how it gets solved.
I did enjoy Morwen's cats in this book, and their very cat-like individual personalities. But I'm worried about Mendanbar! Based on the sneak peek, the next book does promise to be better, so I'm inclined to think of this as just some normal middle-series awkwardness. Hopefully what happens next will bounce the series back to its usual level of fun.

good book to read with my middle schooler
Maddie was excessively disappointed that this book ends on Mendebar being stuck in some pocket dimension somewhere, the castle being covered in spells, and Daystar ["that's a terrible name"] only 2 months old and not yet able to rescue his father yet. Honestly, same. I'd forgotten how unfinished it feels (sure, they did "defeat" the wizards) and the 4th book isn't my favorite but not sure how I'm going to avoid reading it aloud, with this setup.

It’s clear to me that the first in this series is the best, but several of my kids like this one! My nine year old informs me, “I like Morwen, and I like cats.” So, if you like Morwen and cats, this one’s for you.
The best part of this book was the cat commentary.
