Was really disappointed by something that happens toward the end (vague character death spoiler but not mentioning names)

I didn't expect Rebecca Yarros to feed into the Bury Your Gays trope when she's been pretty firm on the representation of different characters in the stiry so far. I truthfully did not understand plot-wise why it even needed to happen especially seeing as it was a somewhat side character so... why even mention the fact they had a same-gender partner at all if they were gonna be killed off but 🤷🏻‍♀️

Aside from that, this book did a lot of things so well. The character development of several different characters, a good mix of humor, world building, action, etc. The ending left on a pretty big cliffhanger, even bigger than Iron Flame imo, so definitely looking forward to the next one when it comes. Definitely prepare yourself to cry at least once cause I did and it was very unexpected.
