This story was a very interesting listen and I ended up really disliking lots of the characters. It gave real Mean Girls vibes and had a lot of rich people acting badly. The twist was interesting and overall was a quick listen.

Overall, I didn't enjoy this book either. I almost didn't read it because it was set in high school and that's just not quite the vibe. I'm looking for right now. What you guys isn't the book's fault, but um yeah, I just thought I just don't know that I enjoy books where teenagers are super witty and cunning and pull off this. Heist, and then there are multiple kids pulling off heist against each other. Yeah, let's just go over the top and yeah, I don't know that I enjoyed it plus it's just high school.I don't know
Sarah is like an officer student and it's her senior year. She's about to find out if she got into Yale, but there's like this dark secret looming Uber her someone starts to blackmail her being like, reveal your secrets or I will reveal them for you like calling around times a day and what leaving news articles on our car and s***. So at the beginning of the school year, she hosted a party at her family's Lake House. And yeah, this popular girl who's there does not get along with was in a boating accident on the property and died as a result. And you know, we get the story piece by piece, and uh, we're trying to figure out what is Sarah's involvement in the story like? Was she just the driver? Was she even on the boat? All that stuff so storylines, like present and past, I watched a tiktok review that made a good point that it did get confusing, because the present in the past there's two parties going on.They're happening at the same time, like the way that each like chapter by chapter. It's like the parties are occurring at the same time. So the stories are really similar, but you have to keep up with which party is which party and I mean, like, there is a cold chase theme. So they're also rushing home from the current day party, trying to get home. Sarah has been in like ignoring mode and so she's had her phone on. Do Not Disturb to choose to get all the cobbles, and this person just keeps threatening her like, come cleaner, I'm gonna tell everybody and/or kill you I don't know, like, tell the truth or die like a little dramatic, but okay, and so other guys are leaving the party they're being chased by this person's person's like literally hitting their bumper, like it is really scary. I run off the road. But they're okay, and then they get pulled over by a cop. Did the cup is leg? Okay? So makes to this person following you yet, like where are they? And she's like, listen, you have to believe me, copper's like, well, I don't, I'm not. You're gonna rest your a** and like actually going to write the ticket, the sucker rams into the cop car, knocking her unconscious. And then that person chases her through the woods. It turns out there's 2 of them so I mean, it really is hard for her to get away and it's scary so she and her friend finally get away. They're in the car on the way back and her friend is just crying and accidentally slips up. It is like this wasn't supposed to happen. So she's like, what the f*** would he mean? Well, it turns out it was her friend who had then the stalker, essentially being like, if you do the confessor Elle's, because she was like, listen, b****, I was on the boat like I know you were driving. I really she the friend just thinks that Sarah's covering up a dui and she was like drunk driving this boat, which like, yeah, why was she driving this boat? It was so irresponsible, it makes sense that she would do that. In the first place, but whatever but then Sarah just admits that yeah, she f****** murdered that girl. She literally drowned her with her bare hands until she died, and it's just like what the f*** she literally was like I had to she was gonna run my future my dad's a lawyer. She's like Carl like it's literally high school, it's really not that big of a deal. I don't know it just it was so dramatic. So at first, the cover up was that Sarah was actually part of this girl and like had kept it a secret, and then the second cover up or the second hijinx was the friends had put this plane together where they hit a camera in the car to get Sarah, to confess, and so they got her to confess and then or well, they caught our confessional camera and then Sarah got arrested and the friends. Had, like a little group job like good job, guys, we did it like what Well, it's cutting out like I don't know. It was just so high school, but also so yeah, fake and force.I don't know.I didn't enjoy this book hey

This is the second book I read by Megan Lally and while it wasn’t as amazing as her first book, it was still an overall good read. I will definitely continue picking up her work and binging it as it releases. I enjoy her writing style and how easily she is able to transport the reader from present to past and back to the present again. She is great at narrating through multiple POV’s and her characters flow effortlessly with one another.
The only reason my review isn’t rated higher than the 3-stars is because I was able to figure out the culprit behind it all. I’m usually clueless and left in the dark when it comes to psychological thrillers so if I was able to figure it out easily then it was probably extremely obvious to others as well. It was worth the read and I can’t wait to see what she puts out next!

Overall it was just okay for me. All the characters were unlikable and it was hard to stay invested in the story when I just didn’t care about their issues. The plot was incredibly predictable and I am really really bad at guessing mysteries. The last chapter felt too hand hold-y, the chat explaining the timeline was unnecessary.
The upside is I enjoy Megan Lally‘s writing as a whole, which is why I finished and didn’t dnf. I loved her debut and I’m looking forward to her future books even if this one wasn’t for me.
