the first of the dune novels that has caused me to laugh out loud---multiple times, at that. as self-contained moments and phrases within the book, the humor is absurd. once they're taken within the full scope of the book (and the series for that matter), there's a gravity to what they represent that suggests frank herbert found no other method as effective in conveying the inescapability and simultaneous meaninglessness of time

Probably my favorite book in the Dune series thus far, I really liked the stories of Ghatima and Leto II, and I also thought the way that Herbert wrote Alia's storyline was extremely interesting. Overall, I really enjoy how not one person is purely good or purely evil in this story. It also really does highlight the inner workings of a political system quite well.

I think this may actually be my favorite of the first three books. It laser focuses on the burden of prescience and how easily things can unravel, which I found quite engaging.

Leto running to escape 'the memory of being human being so rich in him.' Damn. Got me.
