Come As You are is a sweet Gen X second chance romance. Madigan is an ex-grunge rocker who is now a counselor for recovering addicts. He's been celibate for ages, having a hard time separating his drug addiction from the wild sex-life he used to have. Ashley is an emotionally damaged ski resort owner. Both are reluctant to jump into a relationship.
The rag tag gang of addicts that are staying at Madigan's recovery home add some depth to what would otherwise be a fairly typical rom com. Ashley's mom is a full on narcissist who gaslights her throughout the story. How the fuck do you spend $10,000 of the business's money and pretend like it's a 'present' for someone. Then, you get mad at the person for not being 'grateful' for what you did for them. Sorry, but that's financial manipulation. Ashley's ex is also a narcissist, so she's really not sure what to do with a genuinely good guy like Madigan.
Overall a good book with some explicit scenes and likable characters.

It reminded me very much of a Hallmark movie. Failing ski slope. Woman who is down and out with an ex husband that is the caricature of bad and out for himself. Guy who is working to make himself better. Mother issues.
But, it’s so much fun. It’s sweet, and has a couple that are both older and both getting new chances to do something good for themselves.
