A different voice from Chakraborty’s previous work, but it was fun and exciting. I liked how this series leans more into magical realism than fantasy compared to her previous series. There’s enough material to keep the series going and keep it exciting without seeming like it’s a rewrite of the first book.

Oh man! What can I say about this book? I lived and travelled and experienced all the exciting pages of this book with its bold and interesting characters and evergrowing vast world of the legendary islamic myths mentioned in it.

There's so much to love in this book and it's honestly not hyped and loved enough as it should be and maybe it's the length that would intimidate most as it had for me, but it's worth a try! Truly an amazing tale spun like a better, female Sinbad exploring far and wide and the writing style is also a bit more adult-reader oriented in case you're wondering.

I loved the the majority of the book but
after the Peris were mentioned, the book felt a bit silly at times. Amina became  overpowered - the fight scenes felt unsatisfying.

Knowing that she is strongly linked to the demon Raksh due to their daughter, she decides to have sex with him one last time to distract him. What if she has another child and becomes even more linked to him?

Dalila, Timbu, and Majed decided to continue adventuring with Amina. However, Majed doing this despite his wife and children remaining at home, felt quite unbelievable. I understand he loves the sea and navigation but he made a decision to stay without a discussion with his family.

I loved the narrator's voice! Amina was hilarious at many points. I think the book was let down by the final 25% but overall, it was a very enjoyable read.

I loved Chakraborty's Daevabad series and this book continued my enjoyment of her work. I will say I struggled through the first 50-60 pages, it just didn't fully bring me in. However, once I crossed that proverbial hump the book took off. She does a great job blending historical realism with fictional mythos of the region.
Amina, as a character, is phenomenal. Flawed, but makes decisions that come across as believable. Decisive and brutal when necessary as befits a pirate, Amina and her band made for a fun read.
