Absolutely 5 stars. I was not ready for this book. I was thinking: silly, cozy romance with a splash of murder. NOPE. Buckle up, Buttercup. Spoilers ahead.

**The romance**
Cute, sweet, and believable. The characters, of course, were the detective (son of an English Lord and a super model) and a rockstar. So, obviously, the unnaturally hot aspect was sort of fantastical. Otherwise, I really liked these characters. Jack was sweet and deep and artistic. Rav was very focused on how he was viewed, but being inside his head helped me as the reader see how much he just wanted to feel love and security. They were a great LAFS match.

**The murder - spoilers**
Uh, not a sprinkle as I initially thought. The murder was the primary focus of the story...which I LOVED. It was somewhat predictable, but
you don't receive a very key piece of information until right at the end. This would normally piss me off, but, since it wasn't a straight-up mystery, I minded it less. I enjoyed the ride getting to the climax of the story, and I felt pretty good that I got most of the details correct not knowing some important information.
Also, I just wanted this asshole to go down for attacking my new gay boyfriend, Jack.

Can I just say, too *~*~*~*~*~*SPOILER*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
When Jack pulled the trigger I literally cheered! I didn't think he would do it, and I so loved seeing him come into his power at the end like that to protect his people. YES!

**Conclusion**
If you're okay with a bit of predictability and the mix of genres, I'd say definitely give this book a go. It was so much fun!

DELIGHTFUL.

Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary ARC. All opinions provided are my own.

Did I confuse Erin Dunn’s He’s to Die For with another upcoming release & think this was a vampire romance? Yes, yes I did. Did I eventually understand no vampire bites would be forthcoming? Also yes 😂.

He’s to Die For is actually a police detective / famous singer combo set in a very real contemporary world. Rav is an openly gay police detective who comes from a privileged family & likes to look like a million bucks when he solves cases. Jack is a talented singer who needs help because someone’s apparently trying to unalive him.

This book has a lot going for it: a lead who is openly aware of his privilege, honest & open communication, solid descriptions of Jack’s musicianship, & a great ending that stuck the landing.

I was a bit bothered by one aspect of the plot, but this is a satisfying read if you’re looking for a seemingly unexpected romance combo with murder mystery vibes.

4 ⭐️, out now.

Before I begin, I would like to thank Erin Dunn for allowing me to read a Net Galley copy of her upcoming book, He’s to Die For, which will be available on June 3rd, 2025.

Detective Rav Trivedi is the youngest person in NYPD’s homicide squad at 29 years old. He stands out in the department being gay, British, and talented at what he does, not including his great taste in designer suits and having an ivy league education. When his CO assigns him to solve the case of a high-profile record executive’s murder, he is determined to do his best and ignore any distractions from the press, TV crews, social media, and a handsome rock star with a strong motive and zero alibi. There’s no way Rav will screw up his chance to prove himself by falling for his first suspect. Right?

This book was wonderful. You have Rav Trivedi, a confident, hardworking, loyal, determined, handsome young man that likes solving cases and doesn’t know a lot of pop-cultural references. You have Jack Vale, a sweet, talented, reserved, and cute rockstar / songwriter that wants to keep a low-profile outside of music. The interactions between Rav and Jack were fantastic and sweet, and I loved watching them grow closer as the story progressed. The banter between Rav and his detective homicide partner, as well as Jack with his guard and band members were wonderful and made me root for them all. There were many moments and plot twists that had me gasping in surprise, and I rooted for Rav and Jack as they gained more confidence in themselves, abilities, and each other throughout the book. Overall, if you like murder mysteries, great banter, lovely found family, wonderful queer representation, well-written plot-twists, and sweet strangers-to-friends-to-lovers / rockstar x detective romance with quite a bit of spice, then I would highly recommend this book.
