Solidly enjoyable. As a travel enthusiast, I loved the yearly trip as the central plot driver. Friends to lovers is a trope that I enjoy, and this book explored this trope with some interesting depth.

Very cute and easy beach read. Alex and Poppy’s dynamic gives When Harry Met Sally kind of vibes. The main characters are both very lovable, though their dynamic is frustrating considering how long they went without simply communicating, despite how close they are as friends.
"Maybe things can always get better between people who want to do a good job loving each other. Maybe that's all it takes."
I was so unsure of how to rate this, and after thinking about it for the better part of three days I think I'm going to have to go with a 3.5 (even though I hate giving decimal ratings). While at first it was on course for 4 or even 5 stars, I think the main thing that brought it down is that it drags after a certain point. It wouldn't say it's ever boring but it does become repetitive, and past a certain point I did find myself losing interest.
Also, I really hate when a book builds up to one moment from the past that is deliberately kept secret from the reader, like reverse dramatic irony, and when you get there it just isn't much of anything. The *big event from the past* in this was, to me, incredibly anticlimactic. I was left wondering whether that was it or whether there was going to be something else too, but nope, that really was it.
Aside from this, though, I did really enjoy this book. For a romance I think how realistic the characters are caught me by surprise. The things they say, the choices they make, and just generally the way they are is steeped in realism. Whilst this is frustrating at times, because in a romance you really just want them to get together, I think this book is wonderful because of it. The characters do what it is in their nature to do, as opposed to what it would maybe make a better story for them to do, and somehow I think the story is better as a result. I don't know if that makes much sense but that's how it is.
The main couple, too - long time best friends Poppy and Alex - have such a lovely relationship. You can just tell they're soulmates. There are no doubts here about whether or not they'll stay together after the book ends - you know they're going to be together for the rest of their lives. And that's the kind of couple I want to read about! The plausible longevity of the relationship is important! And so often in romances I'm just not convinced. Well, here, consider me convinced. These two are soulmates.
So, overall, I really did enjoy this book. The writing is lovely, both the narrative and the plot and character development, and the plot itself is fun. The characters are where it really shines for me, though. Such sweetness!
