I LOVE Lizzy Dent. However… I had a rough time getting into this. Idk if it was the premise or the characters but I felt like this dragged a little bit compared to her others. But, in typical Lizzy fashion, she did pull me in and I was racing to finish to see how everything would come together.
This book was sweet for sure. In fact, it might have been one of the sweetest I've read in awhile. There was something magical about this story. From the first chapter I was hooked. Amy is a spitfire character who I can find a lot of myself in and for most of the book she had me laughing out loud. Perhaps that's why I enjoyed it so much was because I could see myself making the same decisions she made. Although the story is very easy to predict, there wasn't a moment that I found myself wishing something else had happened or that it'd all taken a different turn.
From the beginning, I enjoyed the humor of the story. It was what kept me gripped, if I'm being honest. A lot of times you get a romance novel labeled as a rom-com but it's very light on the comedy. This one? It's wonderful. It's also incredibly sweet and those sweet moments land even better after the comedy has distracted you for a moment. I found that the main love interest was also just as enjoyable as our lead heroine. Jake was the sweet guy we all want to have living next door. I enjoyed that he was in a similar situation as Amy when she first moved to London because it brought this level of connection between them that I firmly believed in. I also just really enjoyed that not all of the characters were out to get Amy. She was a normal human who was well respected and liked by her colleagues but also she wasn't on some very high pedestal which you sometimes see with characters like her. Her interactions and relationships felt so genuine and realistic.
The romance itself was perfect in my eyes. It gave me all the butterflies I could have ever asked for. I liked that both of them grew confident and brave because of one another and I actually didn't mind that they waited so long to really act on their feelings. I think it was important to both of their character arcs. I also just really really really rooted for them to be together and I'm so happy with how the story ended up. This was such a sweet romance novel that I can't wait to reread.

This book was so much fun to read! I loved Amy - she's fun a quirky and silly and totally relatable. And then you have Jake, her sexy, shy neighbor who moves in across the hall after a mildly embarrassing stint on a reality show.
This book is absolutely a combination of Bridesmaids and Emily in Paris - you have the crass humor from bridesmaids, with the whimsical and spontaneous romantic vibe of Emily in Paris. It also reminded me a little bit of the movie "The Holiday", with the spontaneous meet-cute, the desperate getaway after a terrible breakup, and a jerk of an ex who just can't help but play mind games with you.
Overall, this book was so enjoyable and hard to put down. The writing style was fun and easy, which made it so easy to get lost in. I loved the energy and the tension that built between our two main characters. I loved the side characters attached to our FMC, but I do wish we'd have gotten a little more for the MMC. Good side characters are what can really take a book to the next level for me.
When it comes to the romance, this is definitely a slow burn, with a tinge of forbidden romance. The tension definitely builds and the chemistry is there, but this is not a spicy romance. It doesn't take away from the book in any way, though. The only thing I would've liked to see is an epilogue. While we get a HEA, it doesn't feel quite as neatly tied up as some romances do.
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves an entertaining rom-com!

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for providing the ARC.
I was intially drawn to this book because of the cover and because one of my favorite authors said they loved the book. However, this book was very middle of the road.
I didn't find Amy to be a great character. To me, she wasn't very likeable and I don't necessarily think she demonstrated enough growth over the story for that to be redeemed. While I recognize that the main tag for this book is general fiction, they have romance listed as the second, and I didn't really feel that. There was a lot of slow burn build up with very little payoff. Additionally, I'm not a fan of conflicts that can be resolved with a simple conversation.
Overall, it's a fine book. Some people will enjoy it, others won't. It's just not my favorite.

First off thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC!!
I don’t know how I feel about this book if I’m being honest. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t my favorite/one of those books I’ll randomly remember and go back and read. I think that while the two MCs like each other it’s kind of surface level and I would have liked their relationship a bit more developed.
I think this book will be enjoyable for others but it just wasn’t for me unfortunately cause the cover and description is what pulled me in originally.

fun! love the way Lizzy Dent writes — crisp and clean and pretty, not too heady or cheesy, but still funny and fun.

Not terribly complicated and made for a comfortable night in. Had many LITERAL laugh out loud moments with a range of emotional depth and backstory. I’d read something else by this author and enjoyed the banter. Can not believe the fade to black moment. I waited 344 pages of sexual tension and flirtation for a bath? With NO DETAILS? NOTHING? This was salt and pepper spiced. Had to leave the rating lower than if I’d rated halfway through ~ the story was so well developed that the end just left me “wait that’s how you’re going to finish it?” it’s just the mantra about being more than a night in July reworded for her empowerment BUT the last sentence is “I’m in love” ~ after such awesome dialogue the last 50 pages just feels like the author lost momentum on the project
