What a life!! Majorie Post lived a thousand lives and you may retitle this book as the 4 husbands of Marjorie post lol.

I would have loved a little more business focus but I appreciated the insight into the building of an empire and how she fought to acquire  birdseye frozen foods and then jello, Maxwell coffee etc only to become General foods.  She really understood the importance of healthy and convenient foods. Probably why it succeeded even during downturns like the crash and Great Depression.

Lots of political name dropping.  Her time in Russia was particularly fascinating.

Her real estate holdings - Mar-a-lago and yachts and jets.  Nothing but the best.  Then giving over all these properties to the government.

However she gave certainly gave back.  Gave her yacht during the war, opened canteens to feed, donated money for hospitals - Red Cross.  She seems like a very likable person.  She adapted well to her changing surroundings, environment- with how she dealt with the business and also her husbands endeavors.  She was the hostess with the mostest.

A boss lady behind the scenes.  Very inspiring.  A business woman, a socialite and a philanthropist.

Pataki's meticulously researched novel brings to life Marjorie Merriweather Post, the heiress to the Post cereal empire, and her incredible journey from gluing cereal boxes in her father's barn to becoming one of the wealthiest and most influential women of her time.

The novel takes readers through Marjorie's multi-faceted life, from her early years in Battle Creek, Michigan, to her rise as a savvy businesswoman, philanthropist, and socialite. The narrative is richly detailed, making the reader feel like they are walking alongside Marjorie through the grand halls of Mar-a-Lago, the opulent soirées with Hollywood stars, and the tense moments of history she lived through, such as her ambassadorship in the Soviet Union during WWII.

For fans of historical fiction and biographical novels, The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post is a must-read—a powerful testament to the life of a truly remarkable woman.

Disappointed that Marj wasn’t as much of a strategic business owner as I wanted her to be. I think the author missed an opportunity to portray the hardships that limited a female successor in America.

Marrying, remarrying, and decorating mansions wasn’t super interesting to me. But perhaps that was the point?

This story details the life of Marjorie Merriweather Post, the heiress to the General Foods empire (formerly Post Foods) and a formidable woman in her own right. The novel begins in Battle Creek, MI, where Marjorie and her family are living a meager existence until her hardworking father invents Grape Nuts cereal. The story then follows Marjorie’s life throughout the next 8 decades, detailing her rise into success and wealth, her 4(!) marriages, parenthood, philanthropic efforts, her estates across the US, friendship and run-ins with society’s elite (including nearly every presidential candidate during her lifetime) and other adventures.

Having never heard of Marjorie Post before picking up this book, I thought her story was fascinating. She was a woman before her time and the covert reason behind much of General Foods’ success. (I really enjoyed the bit about launching frozen foods into the market.) She sounds like she was a force!

I wouldn’t consider this book “long,” but it read that way. While I really enjoyed the story, I found it dragging at times.
