This book was really interesting and made me want to learn more about her and that’s how I know I’m reading awesome historical fiction when I want to do my research on the person talked about.

A very interesting account of the long life of a strong woman. Triumph and sadness were her companions  throughout her lifetime.

I absolutely loved this book!! I have no idea how much is fiction and how much is true from all of the research and interviews the author did, but it was so cool to read about the Post/General Foods creation and what an inspiring woman Marjorie was! Also loved that she kept falling in love and trying for a better marriage.

This was a wonderful book. It was beautifully written and kept my attention. The only thing that led me to take this rating from a 5 to a 4 is that so much of the book was about her many marriages and the success or failure of them. I had no idea who she was going in and I looked her up after reading to find out more information about all the good she had done. I wish there was more of the story about that and maybe a smidge less about the extravagant parties and the weddings and trips to the Caribbean. Although I’m perfectly happy to read about these things, I would have loved to hear more about her philanthropy. She was a very powerful woman and was so much more than who she was married to.

Would give it a 3.5 if I could. Enjoyed the first half more than the latter. Would have preferred it to not be written in first person for a more authentic feel. Fascinating history, but the life of such financial excess/high society and that entails, plus repeated foolish romantic relationships (4x) was a tad uninspiring. However, you definitely saw the influences & generational patterns leading to such decisions. Great insight into a financially bright, driven, and creative woman so limited by culture (not being able to vote it even be on the board of her own company).

Audiobook

I had no idea about her life and plan to look for more to read about this amazing woman I would have rated it 5 stars if it weren't all written from the perspective of mainly her husbands. When it came to her accomplishments it just listed what she did during the war. Or just said, "I collected awards..."

“I was wondering… How could I be a woman of such good fortune and have the worst luck of all when it came to the men I loved.”

Yes, me too. I wondered how she could leap so quickly into relationships and then exit quickly too. Allison Pataki must have noticed that theme too, and structures the book around Marjorie Post’s marriages. I found this very interesting and enjoyable. I appreciated the history and found myself searching online as I read to confirm facts. Pataki writes in an honoring and honest way about Post’s successes and failures. I recommend this historical fiction novel and will read more by Pataki.
