Long historical fictional about Marjorie Merriweather Post, heiress to the cereal and General Foods fortune (and namesake of the Pavillion in MD, which isn’t far from where I live and I had no idea). It had the potential to be a rich account of an early 20th century woman of influence, but fell flat. So much about the accumulation of opulence (she built Mar-a-Lago and other properties, had the world’s biggest yacht at its time, prized art collections, and more). She did some philanthropic work, mostly through benefits and writing checks, but as it was told in 1st person, it seemed very self-aggrandizing. The only “conflict” she experienced was in her 4 marriages, all which ended in divorce, for which she takes no responsibility for. Gives Goldie Hawn in Overboard vibes “everyone wants to be me” vibes. Lady, try some introspection.

This book reads like a novel, buts it’s based on the life of Marjorie Post, the daughter of C.W. Post of cereal fame. I wanted to like this book. She certainly lived through a fascinating time in history. But in the end it fell flat for me.

This book was a poor character study into a fascinating women in history. It was a very odd tone for a novel and it was highly fictionalized. The main character almost never took fault for anything, she was perfect in her own eyes. A bad book overall, not worth the read.
