We got a lot of drama, liked the spice, fated mates, similar to TOG again in her wanting to become queen and ruling by taking back her land. She’s also kidnapped and her first love is a FREAK. I loved the romantic tension though for most of the book. You want to root for them

*standing ovation*
I really struggled with Fallon in book one. Until she started interacting with Lore, I was convinced I’d never like her. Book one was also thick with world building and planting the foundation for the plot. This book, was absolutely all about the characters, and I really really needed that. Fallon was so much better developed in this book. I won’t say that she became a different person, because she is still definitely the slightly naive optimist she was in book one, but she at least grew enough to recognize that her worldview is limited and that she needs to allocate her trust wisely. How the author made me go from wanting to throttle Fallon, to finding her brand of cluelessness endearing is a mystery to me.
Lore is amazing. I am obsessed with him, his kingdom, and his people. I think the author did a really good job writing the Crows in such a way that they feel unique in a genre saturated with a lot of the same magics and people.
The romance in this book was such a delicious slow burn, ending in an inferno. I am so pleased with how Lore and Fallon’s relationship developed in this installment, and that makes the crazy cliffhanger all the more worrisome!! I cannot wait for the next book so I can get some resolutions, and hopefully more answers to the burning questions!

I really did try to finish this book but I just can't force myself to read anymore or I will be in a slump.
I loved the first book, I was really excited to read its sequel. However, I ended up feeling quite disappointed with the direction the story took. The main character, Fallon, who we were supposed to root for, became one of the most unlikeable characters I've ever come across.
It felt like all the growth Fallon had in the first book was completely gone, and she turned into a selfish and ignorant brat who only cared about herself, which truly pissed me off

I just can't. Every single page I've read of this book has been a struggle. I hated the first book, but because I saw a gorgeous special edition, I convinced myself to try this one in case I liked it so that I could collect pretty editions.
BUT. Not even the most gorgeous book could convince me to keep going with this. Fallon joins a very small club of the most unlikeable main characters I've ever read. Everything moved incredibly slowly, which was inexcusable in my opinion since the first book already moved extremely slowly.
I told myself I would make a sincere effort to get to at least the halfway point before I gave up, but this book is too long for me to have the energy to read such bad writing and such bad plot/character development for another 100+ pages.
0 stars if I could.
