Loved the world building of this one!
While I've found other prequels tend to focus in, and almost make their universes smaller, this book kept making me realize how big the Empire is - all whilestaying on a single planet !
A major theme of the OG trilogy was that the momentum of humanity is greater than the actions of abilities of any one human. The very existence of Hari Seldon & his psychohistory was god-like and disproving of the theme. To me, this book approached that exact point and humanized Seldon-he is absolutely not omniscient, and not acting alone, and psychohistory was never meant to be an end-all, be-all. He was literally accompanied byrobots , and dozens of other varieties of humans who helped him along the way.
Maybe to make up for Asimov 's prior lack of diversity, he introduced much more into the Empire. And although imperfect, I'm hooked on his writing style.
I was NOT predicting the reveal, and Asimov 's conversational explanations between characters are what I love - humans working out problems together (or with robots!!?! ).
The universe is big, and bold, and maybe filled with a bunch of -isms, but also a bunch of hope.

I remember really liking this book when I first read it 15 years ago. I tried again recently, and I just did not like it at all. Boring characters. Implicit sexism. Barely any plot. Blah.
