The book was fun, though a step back from the previous two books Asimov had written in the series.

This is a prequel and starts at the very beginning of the series, but I would highly recommend reading it in the order the series was written by Asimov, if you start here it will take out a lot of the mystery of the first 5 books. You can probably even skip the prequels, they don't add too much.

The story itself was interesting, you follow Hari Seldon as he tries to stay ahead of the mysterious Eto Demerzel who is chasing him down for use of his pyschohistory. This story is more about the adventure of Hari Seldon as he stays on the run and meets new people. The book does a great job of showing the different areas Trantor and creating a vision of a unique world, the center of the galactic empire.

This book reads less like the normal hard science that Asimov writes and is more of an adventure and world builder. You don't see much of how Seldon develops pyschohistory and it is almost more built to being made into a film with hollywood style ideas and less Asimov ideas, though they still are there and still hold strong through the book. This is just why I feel it was a step back, but overall it was still a fun book.

Interesting read, wasnt boring eventhough it was descriptive

I’m conflicted on this book by my favorite author-Isaac Asimov. My conflict comes from the constant wandering that occurs within this novel both physically and logically. It seemed that several of the places the Hari Seldon and his companions Dora Venabili and others go to are inconsequential to the main plot line. Furthermore, the big reveal towards the end of the book was shocking, but also somewhat undeveloped which left me disappointed. Also, I noticed that several of Asimov’s characters tend to reason the same way to the point that they sort of sound the same. The conversation between the character became predictable and as a result it felt flat in the tension department. Overall, an okay addition to this series but I was left wanting more conflict, more complexity, and not just a collection of random locations and what happened to Hari Seldon in those places.

nice prelude. Always love having Daneel show up. Nothing too surprising since it's setting up expected story lines
