I both did and did not like the twist at the end. In retrospect yes because she was otherwise an annoying mc but also I had to deal with her as such the entire book only find out at the end it was all a lie....

This is a lightning-fast read that feels like a mishmash of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and the Blair Witch Project. It's definitely more of a horror than a thriller, leaning into the gore and psychological suspense elements, so be warned. What did you expect when you send a bunch of teens to Dracula's castle in Romania to film a horror movie? I really enjoyed how each chapter ends with an excerpt from a police report, a social media post, or various other elements of multimedia (my faaaave). While certain elements seemed a little outlandish, it worked for the story as a whole and created a fast-paced unputdownable read. And the ending? I'm obsessed.

This one kept me on my toes. It wasn’t just a vampire story but a mystery and who done it all wrapped up in one. Alex, the protagonist isn’t your average “Mina”. There’s more to her than meets the eye, especially when you are trying to save your family.

This was really 3.5 stars - the ending bumped it up from 3 for me. I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing and there wasn’t a single likable character - not even Alex.

This is an absolutely dramatic book. With 7 teens in an appropriately gothic setting, knowing deVos, this was sure to go spectacularly awry.

Told from Alex’s point of view, with interviews with the police after the fact, Go Hunt Me unfolds uniquely. You don’t really find yourself cheering for one set character, and that’s completely okay. You’re here for the plot. However, the character that sticks out in my mind the most is Kenna, who didn’t fit in with the friend group. She was utterly self-absorbed; deVos wrote her selfishness very well.

Alex’s relationship with Jax was odd. She repeatedly told herself she should be grateful just to have him. Jax doesn’t seem to do anything for her, and from her words, Alex is only with Jax because other girls want him. I’m also declaring her the klutziest character in the book world. Poor thing can’t help but trip, whether or not there is something in her way.

This tense undercurrent to reading Go Hunt Me generates the need to uncover what is going on and who is responsible. Why do things go from bad to worse, and who is the cause? This is a suspenseful read in an idyllic setting, ripe for things to unravel.

Rating: 4.25⭐️

Trigger warnings: gore, blood, murder, parent overcoming cancer

I can see why this book is perfect for fans of Diana Urban’s All Your Twisted Secrets. It’s a fast paced YA thriller with the ultimate twist ending.

We follow seven teens as they travel to a remote castle in Romania over Spring Break to film a short movie. While there, weird things start happening and the teens start getting killed off. Now Alex and her friends have to figure out what’s happening before it’s too late.

When it comes to YA thrillers, I find that the characters are never fleshed out fully (usually because they end up dead early in the book) and with seven main characters, it’s hard to write in-depth backstories for them all. However, I feel like there was just enough learned about them and why they keep the secrets they have. It made for an intense and gripping thriller.

There were so many different twists in this book, and I have to keep rethinking my guess as to how it would end. My original theory ended up being correct which is cool but that’s why I can’t give this 5 stars. I was able to guess the twists, and that’s usually what happens when I read mystery thriller. But it was still a suspenseful read that had me hooked. I mean, I read this in less than 24 hours.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for an intense, thriller that’s guaranteed to keep you guessing right until the very end!
