There was a lot I liked about the story and it all started with the premise of a bunch of college bound kids who wanted to get into film making and we’re set on making a horror movie that would get the main character accepted into the university they were all going to. I loved the creepy and atmospheric setting at the sprawling and isolated Romanian castle that was the inspiration for Dracula. There was so many different characters who were all involved in the film they were trying to make but I didn’t find any of them likable especially the main character. I did enjoy the tension as they are all trapped in the castle trying to survive the night and the plot twist at the end had me stunned.
I mean, I'm glad I pushed through and kept hoping it would get better. But I wish I didn't have to wait until the last two chapters for it to get REALLY interesting.
I just don't understand why Alex liked her "friends," especially Jax. But now, knowing the end, I have to wonder, how much of what we are told of her friends is true? How much is just a part of The Story in the story?
Interesting story. It follows the Final Girl model. But also, I've read so many stories with diverse characters lately that I was actually jarred by the very White cishet cast.

the plot twist was so amazing and so unexpected. it took a while for the action to kick in but once it did i couldn’t put the book down

So poorly written that it barely made sense. In one case, the characters had been shouting for "Maddie" for pages, and then suddenly it was "Maggie is dead." What editor let that through? Also, I like the idea of the feminist message, but it got lost in clunky, slapped-together dialogue, choppy action, and random preachy speeches. Not to mention that the narrator's true feelings and actions are not clear at all because rather than reveal things gradually through hints, she saves all the reveals for the last two pages. Sloppy and disappointing, reads like a kids' fanfic.
