Aw man... this was really good! A very cute romance. What I appreciate most about this book was the heroine. Ruth is black, mentally-ill, and introverted. She's rude, she's prickly, she doesn't know how to talk to people, she's awkward and clumsy... she's a person, and none of those things make her innately undesirable or are seen as things that she needs to change or regulate to become desirable. She obviously has her flaws, and her introversion makes her do things that aren't always ideal but like... she's black and comics-obsessed and messy and lives in her sleepwear and this handsome doofus of a gentle giant still falls in love with her because she's a good sweet funny person. So many thing sin this book made me smile so much and it was just really nice to read.
(Evan isn't a doofus. He's a good dude. I just care about Ruth a lot more is all.)
Not much plot to speak of, beyond the unravelling of Ruth's story and her history with the town, but I enjoyed that. And I really enjoyed that when the time came for her to confront her past, she was allowed to do it on her own. She told Evan to sit the fuck down and he did, like a good boy.
Honestly, I'd read more het if it was all about prickly gals and cute dudes. 3.5 stars, looking forward to reading more from this author.

I swear on both my kneecaps no one does a grumpy FMC like Talia Hibbert.
This book was everything. Evan was so patient and supportive and thirsty (lol). Ruth was ridiculous in the best of ways and watching her grow to trust herself and her worth was so heartwarming... this book is hilarious and spicy and endearing and sweet and WOW did I wanna punch some side characters in the face. Repeatedly lol.
Also, I will never skip an autistic character written by Talia. So good!

This has most of the tropes and qualities of a book I should like and yet six chapters in and it has done nothing but annoy me. I liked Talia Hibbert's Merry Inkmas so I know it isn't the author. I'm guessing it's the heroine. She's autistic but she really just reads like a bitch. Her and the hero don't have, to me, any chemistry. It also takes a while to get to the good stuff. We spend way too much time puttering around in Ruth's world.
I'm a little disappointed. I have never been a big fan of unlikable heroines. I think the whole point of a romance is that I'm supposed to love the heroine and her guy above all else. Talia is a good writer though so I might check out another one of her series in the future. No rating since I DNFed. Won't recommend.

The romance was really sweet. I appreciate that this had an autistic heroine - aside from The Kiss Quotient, I haven't seen much representation of that in romance novels. I did feel like the whole mystery of What Happened could have been more developed.
Fun, steamy, very inclusive - a great, quick read by Talia Hibbert that has me intrigued by the rest of the Ravenswood realm. Also, she is amazing at writing believably dreamy men - whew.
DNF @ 25% sorry i hate this but i’m still counting it mind ur business
CW: death of a parent, past abusive relationship.
3.5
Loved the characters but the plot was nonexistent. The ending dragged on for way too long, and the epilogue felt out of place.
Nonetheless, this was quick and enjoyable but not a new favourite.
