Oh my god. This book was so sweet and fluffy I feel like I am in love.
5/5
My first 5 star read of the year!!! I've been hearing really great things about Talia Hibbert on twitter and after seeing lots of hype after this recently release, I knew I needed to jump on the bandwagon and let me tell you, I am not disappointed!
A Girl Like Her is one of the best contemporary books I've ever read. It has:
- autistic, fat heroine
- soft ex-military hero who cooks for heroine
- lowkey slow burn romance
- so sex positive and fat positive
- CONSENT
- explores getting over an abusive relationship and the consequent social fallout
I really loved seeing Ruth and Evan's relationship develop and grow and I also loved Ruth's individual development throughout the novel too. Talia Hibbert's writing is SO fun and humorous and lovely and I cannot wait to read more of her books!

CW:
Spoiler
intimate partner violence in past relationship (not on-page and never by the LI), slutshaming, casual racism/microaggressions towards BIPoC (mostly in mannerisms, no slurs), ongoing obsessive behaviour; slight sabotage; spreading lies about MC and harassment by an ex (never really amounts to anything more than gnat level annoyance. and the town pariah status. but it's a thing.)This book has a black, autistic main character and the representation is #ownvoices for both of those things, which it's amazing. I really like Ruth, she was an amazing protagonist and I loved seeing her character development throughout this book, seeing her confront her fears and stand up for herself at the end was wonderful. The hero is so sweet and amazing and the chemestry between the main characters is off the charts. Also, the sex scenes in this book are so steamy!
YAY! This was my first Talia Hibbert book and I loved it!
This was a great read! The only bad thing I have to say about it is that after reading this book I am painfully aware that no real life man will ever come close to Evan Miller and that's just unfair. I mean, he cooks!! *sigh*
I really liked how Ruth's "secret" slowly unravelled. It kept me at the edge of my seat just wanting more!
I wish I could be friends with Ruth, she would tell me the best order in which to read the marvel comics and I desperately need that guidance.
Reading this book was not easy tho, I wanted to punch half the town of Ravenswood throughout most of the story.
Also, I LOVED the epilogue.

This reminded me a lot of Chloe Brown! I really enjoyed it.
*fans face*
I usually prefer a bit more conflict, but this was really lovely (and hot). It's excellent if you're looking for a low-angst read.
