A Girl Like Her

Talia Hibbert

The author handled multiple perspectives really well and was great with perspective shifts. The characters were likeable and I appreciated the minimal conflict involved in this fun romance; normally, the romance I read involves 3 major misunderstandings and fights and this did not contain that. Simply a beginning hurdle and lots of careful effort for the protagonists to trust and love each other.

okay ms hibbert, i see you

I've never heard of or read anything by Talia Hibbert until my friend, Kevin, told me to get my life together and suggested this be my first.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. First of all, the main character is Sierra Leonean, like me! The excitement I felt about that alone propelled me through the first twelve chapters in a couple hours. I also appreciated that though this was an interracial couple with a bbw heroine, weight nor skin tone difference was at the forefront of this story.
I was a little bit disheartened by the beginning interactions of Evan and Ruth because it reminded me of "Call Me, Maybe", which is why I gave the book four stars but the characters were well rounded and the passion was very present.

4.5 stars. I really, really liked this book. More later.

I adore Talia Hibbert. That is all.
fast-paced

Dnf. The characters in this book are completely one dimensional. Every single man falls into only one of the next categories: they are either on the path to sainthood or they are evil abusive monsters.
Idk... my biggest take away from this book was that Ruth like pajamas and comics and Evan likes feeding Ruth.

Completely charming. What's not to love about a comic book nerd and a gentle giant?

This is my second Talia Hibbert book and unfortunately I didn’t like any more than the first one I read, Get A Life Chloe Brown. I swear I saw a review saying this book was set in a small town in Montana – it is not! – so I may have to give a third book a fair shot at some point.
