I enjoyed aspects of this installment quite a bit: further character development, clean up of stray plot lines, the overall mystery. But, I also am weary of some of Penny's techniques such as the flashback overlays in the story. Most likely I'm noticing them more because I'm reading the books in quick succession, but it's tiresome.

I love these gentle Gamache narratives and the characters of 3 pines.
Fuck and Duck. Ruth Zardo. She’s something.
Not all people are inherently good or loyal….envy kills.

My favorite in the series so far.

Escapist reading at it's best.

Lessons on the near and far enemies of the Brahma-Viharas ( heart practices) in a murder mystery! I so enjoy Louise Penny.

the most serious and gamache-centered in the series yet. i’m glad to find out the backstory and i liked the motive for murder but it was again a tad too implausible. this might be the best written of the first three books but some of the charm was hidden by the two plot lines.
