A wonderful 600 pages of exploring deep human emotions and the history of the shocking Arnot case.
I just can't get into Louise Penny. I find the townspeople smug and annoying rather than charming
mysterious
medium-paced
I often find myself wanting to visit Three Pines while listening to or reading Louise Penny's novels. She's such an immersive writer that it feels as though maybe I've been there before, that the characters are friends from another lifetime. It almost seems possible when realizing it would only be a few hours drive from here. In this one I was particularly struck by the weather similarities to the current weather conditions where I live, over the same days surrounding Easter. Our early flowers are up, bracing themselves for what's coming.

I feel like I should be giving these books higher star ratings, given that I'm now addicted to them like crack, and maybe I will when I pause long enough from reading to actually think about why they are crack-worthy. I think part of it is that they masquerade as cozies (and I'd like nothing more than to go live in Three Pines for a while) but they are often deeply sad, mournful, maybe, in a way I don't expect from a book series that also gives me the warm fuzzies.

My favorite in the series so far. Some mysteries from previous books were uncovered. I really enjoy the atmosphere of Three Pines.
I had a hard time getting into this at first but after about half way it got better.
