(Don’t worry, those all make sense.)

An Ode to Death, quite simply. Sure, this is labeled a romance, but this was far more a free therapy session on the beauty of life and hope beyond it. Made my heart sing,  made me feel so full, and made me feel that much more healed. Ashley Poston did it again. I can easily see myself rereading this in the future to cope with a loss! (Forewarning: one scene is unnecessarily sexual but easily skipped.)
“For what is grief, but love persevering?”

I enjoyed this one! There were lots of pop culture book/reader/writer references and plenty of ghost/death puns that made me smile. This book does focus on grief and death of a parent. I thought Florence's quirk was fun and interesting and I'm so glad she got her happy ending after her growth and acceptance. There were a lot of quoteable favs but this one stuck out to me the most:

"I can't ever control how someone else treats me but I can control how I choose to live and how I choose to treat others and I'd worried about what other people thought and what other people wanted from me for years because I actually thought it mattered."

Rating: 4/5 (Sold Fairyloot set)

I enjoyed this book more than The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston. There was action from the get go and the descriptions didn't go on for an age. That was until about 18% of the way through when a key event occurred. The descriptions seemed to go on a bit and the pacing visibly slowed after that. To be honest, the pacing changed constantly throughout the book, and I only got used to it at about 30% of the way through. There were boring parts and great parts.

Fortunately, I liked Florence. I felt bad for her throughout but enjoyed her journey. It was a shame that I wasn't strongly moved by her story (this book was definitely a story about grief and living through it, as well as a romance) because I wanted to love it. Ben was a good guy though. He was another casualty of the huge guy with a tiny girl trope though. Note: I realised that this was another Reylo fan fiction. Are all new books Reylo fan fictions? His name was literally a mash up between Ben Solo and Cassian Andor? Regardless, I liked his interactions with Florence.

Having said that, Lee needed to get hit by karma. I wasn't satisfied with his conclusion in the book. On the other hand, Rose was fun. She had a good energy about her and was a solid friend to Florence.  The family drama was executed well and I was glad everything ended (unbelievably) happily ever after.

Overall, I'd say that the book was good but it didn't grip me. I liked the characters and the plot (grief was depicted well) but I was bored at times.

Ahhh it’s my first official audiobook review!! And no surprise here (I mean, it’s Ashley Poston) it was five stars! The narrator was absolutely incredible and made the book even more enjoyable. There’s also something so addicting when a book is about reading/publishing and I loved that the FMC, Florence, was a ghost writer! Florence and her family were so quirky and funny, I had a blast reading about them. And then there’s Ben 🥹 Oh my heart!! He’s now my latest favorite book boyfriend! Their chemistry was everything. I won’t say anymore because I’d hate to spoil it! You have to go and read this one for yourself!

It is sweet, funny, heart throbbing and so relatable on many different levels, such a good fall read (even though I read it in feb.) that gave me hope for my own happily ever after ;)
