An entertaining book full of science facts but also has misinformation. The inaccuracies make the facts less significant and harder to believe.

My rule for non fiction is that you have to be interested in the topic. Obvi. Otherwise why pick up the book. I found this fascinating. Talks about all the gross things people don’t like to talk about.

And now for the quotes and thoughts I had. Beware spoilers.

Cruentation is a wild “science” what a crazy idea. …. Smh (the idea that bodies would spontaneously bleed in the presence of their killer)
Benign masochism. **wave hand in rainbow motion** the more you know.
The most prolific murderers of their own kind is the MEERKAT?!?!!!?? Humans are 30th on the list?!!???!
The last recorded cliterodectomy in the USA was done on a FIVE YEAR OLD?!?!?? In the NINETEEN FORTIES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?! this is just more proof that we need term limits.
NASAs official position is they haven’t done any studies on sex in space….. are we going to?!?!?!!?
I do not recommend looking up face mites. …
“The plural of anecdote, is not data”
MENDOTA MENTAL HEALTH MENTION!!!!!! Cool study.

I love science and I love learning new things.
From cockroaches to swapping poop to why certain nosies are a psychological thing - I'll take more.

Interesting amusing and informative. Lots on being eaten by dogs, head transplants, and blow flies.

Educational, gross, and entertaining. The non-fiction trifecta for me, pretty much.

Gory Details is an excellent collection of bite-size trivia occupying the Venn diagram of taboo, macabre, and disgusting. I am looking forward to wowing anyone who will listen with the profusion of anecdotes and factoids about death and poop I've absorbed from this book (I've already deployed the fascinating/gag-inducing truth of just how blowflies have been known to interfere with crime scenes to one unfortunate soul, who may or may not have been eating at the time). Engelhaupt writes on a multitude of gruesome subjects with candor, good humor, and contagious fascination.

Extremely engaging and definitely a bit gross for the squeamish among us. I wish she had gone more in-depth about neurodivergency in relation to mysophonia, but I suppose that's outside the scope of the book.
