I loved this book. I loved it so much. I was really hoping I would love it, and it absolutely did NOT disappoint! Matthew and Hector were incredible, and I absolutely adored reading about them both. I really was not expecting Matthew to be as relatable as he ended up being, but his struggles with anxiety hit really close to home for me. It was a really validating read, and I was actually surprised by how validating it was to read from his point of view about his struggles. I also really loved watching his character growth. It was done wonderfully well, and it was such a pleasure to join him on his journey. Something else I loved about this book was that it wasn't a story about a character realizing that they were meant to be in a small town instead of the city they always thought they loved. Matthew loves the city, and even as he grows as a person and begins to shift his priorities, he still loves it. I appreciated that because, even as someone who doesn't like NYC that much, I get tired of stories of people becoming almost a whole different person. Matthew didn't become a different person, just a better one. The side characters were all wonderful too, and I loved watching Matthew connect, not only with Hector, but with his grandparents and new friends as well. It was such a special thing to watch unfold. Hector was also such an amazing love interest. He was so sweet and kind and wonderful, and I loved him so much. I loved learning about him and getting to know him along with Matthew. He was really special. I loved everything about this book, and it was one of the easiest five stars I've ever given.

ā˜ƒļø Holiday Romance
šŸ«¶ Enemies to Lovers
ā˜ŗļø Wholesome Ending
šŸŽ„ Small Town Christmas

Loved this!!  The holiday atmosphere and the small town vibes made this such an enjoyable read.  Worth the hype for sure.

I wasnā€™t sure if Iā€™d like Matthew or not, the spoiled rich kid usually is an ick for me but this was written so well.  He was a well detailed character and had depth to his personality.  The character development was so pleasant to read.

This was such a cute holiday rom-com!

This was a fun holiday read! I felt the characters had lots of layers and that you really got to know the town dynamic and the supporting characters as well. Iā€™m always a sucker for enemies to lovers and I also really appreciated the generalized anxiety disorder and therapy representation. This book adds some much needed differing perspective to the holiday romance genre and I think thatā€™s great. What I didnā€™t love: Some of the dialogue felt a bit forced, and I could not handle all the ā€œdudeā€ repetitiveness (even though itā€™s called out as an aspect of that characterā€™s personality, it really took me out of the story after awhile). That said, thereā€™s a lot to like in this one!

If you like Schitts Creek (especially David Rose), then you might just love this book. The first 5-10 chapters are very David Rose-esque. Such a good book! Love love love!!

ā€œNever in my life has someone come for me so directly like this. Everyone hides behind their computers, writing articles and mean tweets they think Iā€™ll never see, but hereā€™s this stranger unabashedly going toe-to-toe with me. Fuck. Do I find thatā€¦refreshing?ā€œ

Thank you, NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca, for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first book by Timothy Janovsky, but I will definitely be going back to read his first book now. Youā€™re a Mean One, Matthew Prince was utterly delightful. It had all the warm, heartfelt vibes of a Hallmark Christmas movie but with depth and steamy chemistry. The small town setting was perfect, and I loved getting to know all the side characters.
I tend to prefer dual POV when it comes to romance novels. However, I think this book is one of the rare instances where a dual POV may have detracted from the story. Although clearly spoiled and snobbish, Matthew was a surprisingly likable character, something I think can be attributed to the first-person single POV. Because we only see the story through Matthewā€™s eyes, we can fully understand his struggle with anxiety and the character growth he goes through throughout the book.
My only complaint was Hectorā€™s overuse of the word ā€œdude.ā€ However, I must admit that by the end of the book, I started to find it as endearing as I did annoying. So do with that information what you will.
Overall, if youā€™re looking for a sweet and funny read with witty banter and a Schittā€™s Creek feel, look no further than Youā€™re a Mean One, Matthew Prince.
